Manchester United loanee Di’Shon Bernard enjoying loan spell at Hull City

Hull City loanee Di’Shon Bernard feels a stint at the MKM Stadium is exactly what he needs to help his development, as he holds long-term ambitions of breaking into the first team at Manchester United.

“A loan is definitely what a young player needs, I know everyone wants to jump straight into the first team at their club, but people need to realise it’s not always like that,” Bernard told BBC Humberside, as quoted by the Yorkshire Post.

“You wish it was, but sometimes you need to go on loan and learn your trade which I’ve done, and continue to do.

“You need to go to the lower leagues and learn how to defend against strikers that might not be as good on the ball, but can beat you in other ways.

“We’ll see how it goes, I’m not looking too far ahead, I’m just taking each game as it comes. I think at the end of the season, we can see how it goes and we can have a think about that.

“I’m not against me going on loan again, so we’ll see.”

The 20-year-old is spending the entire Championship season on loan from Manchester United after previously going out on loan in League Two with Salford City last season. Salford obviously have close ties to United, and the move ended up securing Bernard a move closer to the top-flight where he will gain the most experience.

Bernard has been involved in seven games this season, helping Grant McCann’s side earn three clean sheets in that run and his performances of late should see him start this weekend’s Yorkshire derby with Huddersfield Town.

The youngster wants to become a regular at Old Trafford, but now he most focus on his time in the Championship, improving as a player and becoming an all round better defender once he leaves City at the end of the season.
