Diogo Dalot reacts to West Ham defeat in the Carabao Cup

Manchester United’s trophy drought, which dates back to May 2017, will not be ended by lifting the Carabao Cup this season after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his side were eliminated by a resilient West Ham side at Old Trafford.

The two sides had met in the Premier League just days prior, with Jesse Lingard coming back to haunt his former side with an 89th-minute winner. David de Gea’s late penalty save on Mark Noble ensured United continued their promising start to the Premier League campaign.

The affair at Old Trafford was, similarly to the one at the London Stadium, closely contested and there was little to separate the two sides. An early goal from West Ham was enough to guide the east-London side through to the next round and United are left licking their wounds.

Customary these days, United players were quick to react to the defeat on social media, as seen above.

Diogo Dalot, who made his first start of the season in the game, thanked the Old Trafford faithful: “We tried our best but unfortunately it wasn’t enough tonight. Thank you to the fans for your massive support as always. We’ll keep working hard for what’s coming,” he said on Twitter.

The young right-back spent last season on loan at AC Milan but still harbors hope of ousting Aaron Wan-Bissaka as the clubs’ first-choice, according to reports.

  1. My is that ole should be shown the exit door.for crying out loud ole was given chance for four years and he is yet to get a trophy. Jose just one year had one trophy for utd.utd should treat this injury before it gets rotten.

    1. I am so disappointed with Ole’s strategies sometimes. This man will not bring any trophy to Man U at all. With all the quality players at his disposal, he is still failing. Which trophy are going to win this season if we out from this one and we were hammered by Young Boys in the other cup recently.
