Preview: Manchester United vs West Ham – Carabao Cup third round

Manchester United will be looking to make it two wins in a row when they take on West Ham in the Carabao Cup third round at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

The Reds go into the game on the back of a terrific late 2-1 victory over West Ham at the London Stadium in the Premier League last weekend and United will be hoping for more of the same against the Hammers come Wednesday night.

Head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is widely expected to make a host of changes to his starting eleven on Wednesday to face West Ham with Donny van de Beek, Juan Mata and Anthony Martial all expected to start.

The League Cup may not necessarily be top of everyone’s wish list this season but it still provides United a great opportunity to win some silverware this season, and with the final of the competition being at the end of February it could act as the perfect springboard needed for United going into the latter stages of the season.

As shown on Sunday, West Ham are no mugs but with David Moyes also expected to make changes to his starting eleven Wednesdays fixture should be a tad easier than last weekend and if United turn up and play like we know they can then they should have too much for West Ham and progress to the fourth round.

Home advantage here I feel is likely to be key. At the London Stadium, West Ham are more than a match for anyone but away from home not so much and with the Hammers likely to field a much changed starting eleven you would expect nothing more than a reds victory here.

It wont be easy but this is a game United will undoubtedly go into as favourites and one which they should win.

Prediction: Manchester United 2-0 West Ham
