PL team of the week: Ronaldo part of United trio after sinking Newcastle

The latest Premier League team of the week is here, with three Manchester United players involved after the 4-1 win over Newcastle.

Nine out of the eleven players picked by Garth Crooks come from United, Liverpool and Chelsea – with three clubs having as many players each in the team of the week. The final two selections were Man City’s Bernardo Silva and Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha.

Crooks’ XI this week: Mendy; Alexander-Arnold, Silva, Van Dijk, Shaw; Silva, Fernandes, Thiago; Zaha, Lukaku, Ronaldo.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s inclusion is probably the least surprising after his two goals against the Magpies, but I am amazed not to see Paul Pogba in midfield. The Frenchman managed two assists to take his season tally to seven in just four matches.

Thaigo Alcantara may have pulled the strings for Liverpool against Leeds but the France international was exceptional again.

Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw were also superb against Steve Bruce’s side.
