Everton star says Ronaldo’s return to Man Utd was ‘all we were speaking about’

Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United was a hot topic among supporters before the first international break of the season. The 36-year-old forward completed the move last week and could make his second debut for the club this weekend as United welcome Newcastle to Old Trafford.

Evidently, Ronaldo’s homecoming was not only a topic for supporters to discuss but also Premier League footballers. Everton winger Andros Townsend has revealed that the former Real Madrid star’s transfer was ‘all we were speaking about’ at his club.

Ronaldo looked to be dangerously close to joining Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City before he made a sensational u-turn, a move that had Everton first-team players talking on their travels.

“I think we were travelling for an away game and we heard the news of Ronaldo to Man City,” Townsend is quoted as saying by talkSPORT.

“So obviously we were discussing everything that goes with that and then we turned on our phones, and bang, the news has broke that he’s signed for Man United. It was literally all we were speaking about.”

Clearly, anyone affiliated with the Premier League can’t quite get enough of the returning superstar and even if the game against Newcastle this weekend will not be broadcasted in the UK, all eyes will be on Old Trafford across the globe.
