Paul Pogba on Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo joining Man Utd

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is the latest to praise Raphael Varane following his transfer from Real Madrid this summer. The 28-year-old has been a longstanding target for the club since 2011 but he finally made the switch from Spain last month.

Varane was unveiled as Manchester United’s third signing of the summer ahead of last month’s Premier League curtain-raiser against Leeds but it was another Frenchman who would steal the show that day, as Pogba registered four assists in the five-goal rout of their fierce rivals.

The midfielder has now commented on Varane’s arrival at the club, highlighting how their relationship stretches farther back than many might think.

“The arrival of Raph (Varane) is always positive, especially for the club,” Pogba told Telefoot. “We have a very good relationship, we have known each other for a very long time. I am happy that he is with us and that he brings his experience and qualities.”

The acquisition of Varane will have impressed supporters all over the world but, through no fault of his own, the Frenchman will not be remembered as United’s most high-profile incoming this summer.

Cristiano Ronaldo sealed a sensational return to the club earlier this week and could make his second debut against Newcastle next week, an arrival Pogba is happy to see.

“It’s always a pleasure to play with the best,” he said on sharing a dressing room with Ronaldo this season. “It’s a boost for the team, the level will increase. We want everything to go very well.”
