Manchester United reject enquiry for Jesse Lingard

Manchester United have rejected an enquiry for Jesse Lingard, according to reports. The 28-year-old made his first official appearance for the club against Southampton for the first time in almost eight months.

Lingard enjoyed a stellar half-season on loan at West Ham in the last campaign and oversaw a spectacular resurrection of his career, having previously failed to make a single appearance in the league for Manchester United.

Lingard’s form, which saw him score nine goals and assist a further four in just 16 games, earned him a recall to Gareth Southgate’s England setup in March before being named in the provisional 33-man squad for Euro 2020.

Now, Manchester United are said to have turned down an enquiry from West Ham for the player. That’s according to ESPN, who claim that the contact came last week.

Lingard has just one year remaining on his contract at Manchester United and could leave on a free transfer next year if a new deal is not agreed before then.
