Phil Jones expects shirt number request amid new Manchester United arrival

It shouldn’t take long before Raphael Varane is officially announced as a Manchester United player.

The World Cup-winner becomes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s third signing of the summer — after Tom Heaton and Jadon Sancho — with a medical penciled in for the coming days.

Last night, Varane touched down in Manchester and must now quarantine before linking up with his new teammates.

It looks unlikely that he will make the bench for Saturday’s pre-season friendly against Everton, with the focus turning on next weekend’s Premier League opener versus Leeds United.

According to Caught Offside, the hierarchy at Old Trafford want Varane to be handed Phil Jones’ number four shirt.

No decision has been made yet but Jones is expecting to be asked to transfer his shirt number.

There won’t be a place for Jones in the team again this season, and he’s played little to no football since signing his last contract at the club.

It’s finally time to move Jones on!
