Mauricio Pochettino questioned over PSG’s Paul Pogba interest

Mauricio Pochettino is keeping his cards close to his chest when it comes to a potential PSG transfer for Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba.

The Frenchman has entered the final year of his contract at Old Trafford and will be free to speak with European clubs in January.

This could prove to be a costly situation for United because it allows Pogba to wind down his current deal before leaving the Red Devils on a free at the end of the season? That would certainly fit the narrative that Mino Raiola is looking for a big pay day – but he is guaranteed one either way, even if Pogba agrees to stay at United.

Raiola outlined his intention to engineer a transfer in an interview with Tuttosport in December and PSG have since emerged as the frontrunners for his signature.

We learnt this summer that Real Madrid were unwilling to take that same risk with world class defender Raphael Varane, who has joined Manchester United as a result. You’d think a senior French international joining United could force Pogba into a contract U-turn, but only time will tell.

The ‘dream’ of playing for Real Madrid looks dead in the water for Pogba. They are under severe financial pressure and are somehow trying to bring Kylian Mbappe to the Bernabeu as the next Galactico.

Mauricio Pochettino refused to name Pogba when quizzed on the transfer links, though he did praise the Ligue 1 club for getting their business done ‘quietly’ in the summer window.

“I won’t give any names, I don’t like to speak about players who belong to other clubs,” he told Le Parisien. “The club is working away quietly, achieving some good things. At the end of the window, we’ll see who the new players are – if they are any – and which polayers leave the squad.”

But are things ever done quietly when it involves Pogba and Raiola?

There has been claims Pogba and his wife are settled in Cheshire with their two young children and we already know what the PSG ultras think about the potential transfer.

Liverpool have been sensationally linked with a move Pogba following reports his agent Raiola had offered him to the Scousers.

The sooner this is all put to bed the better.
