Ole Gunnar Solskjaer provides injury update on star after four months out

After ending the 2019/20 season as Manchester United’s top goalscorer, Anthony Martial endured a torrid campaign the following year. The forward scored just four goals in the Premier League and missed the final two months of the season with a knee injury.

Martial hasn’t featured for the club since March 11 when United drew 1-1 with AC Milan. Still, the former Monaco star was called up to the France squad where he sustained a serious knee injury.

With two pre-season games already played and no Martial in sight, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided an update on the 25-year-old, who has now spent the last four months on the sidelines.

“Anthony Martial has also joined us, but he’s not joined the team training yet. He’s recovering from the knee injury and that looks good,” Solskjaer told ManUtd.com.

The Norwegian boss was conservative in his response but hinted that a return to first-team training may just be around the corner. Edinson Cavani, who is United’s first-choice striker, is also yet to return from his off-season break.

Mason Greenwood could start United’s first league game of the season as the side’s striker, having featured in both pre-season games so far.
