A deal to sign Jadon Sancho was finally completed late last week several weeks after an original announcement had been made. On July 1, Manchester United announced it had reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund over the 21-year-old’s transfer.

Sancho’s involvement in this summer’s European Championship meant that a deal could not be completed until the tournament was over but the former Watford and Manchester City youngster eventually made his way to Carrington to undergo his medical.

A formal announcement was not made until almost two weeks after his medical with the holdup believed to be over his new shirt number.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Sancho wanted to take on the hallowed number seven shirt at the club but eventually chose 25.

It’s reported that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was reluctant to ask Edinson Cavani, the current occupant of the number, to give up his digit. The Uruguay international is out of contract at the club next year and the number could be available in 2022.
