‘Joke’ – Loads of Manchester United fans question Jadon Sancho’s shirt number

Plenty of Manchester United fans jumped to social media to react to the Jadon Sancho announcement earlier today.

It was a long time coming but the England winger is finally a Manchester United player, with the BBC claiming the transfer cost £73 million.

We can begin to look forward to next season knowing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have a goalscoring threat on the right side, after going the last few years with a predictable attack of sending everything down the left.

After becoming a United player, Sancho told ManUtd.com: “I’ll always be grateful to Dortmund for giving me the opportunity to play first team football, although I always knew that I would return to England one day.

“The chance to join Manchester United is a dream come true and I just cannot wait to perform in the Premier League. This is a young and exciting squad and I know, together, we can develop into something special and bring the success that the fans deserve.

“I am looking forward to working with the Manager and his coaching team to further develop my game.”

While many fans expected Sancho to be handed the iconic No.7 shirt, it looks like he will have to wait at least one season before that number becomes available (currently worn by Edinson Cavani).

That means Sancho will sport the No. 25 instead, which was last worn by Odion Ighalo. Let’s hope he is a greater success than previous No. 25 Jordi Cruyff, who was another to arrive with lots of hype…

And a number of fans were not impressed by Sancho’s shirt number, as seen below:

I certainly won’t be one to lose sleep over a footballer’s shirt number. Right now, it’s about getting ready for the new season and hopefully Sancho can hit the ground running.

A win over Leeds on the opening day of the season is a must for this team.
