Real Madrid have seemingly failed to convince Raphael Varane to extend his 10-year stay at the club and an exit this summer seems inevitable. The defender has long been linked with a move to Manchester United but could finally materialize this year.
The 28-year-old is still on vacation after participating in this summer’s European Championship for France and his break could be the reason for any delay in negotiations but there are positive updates from Spain.
Domestically, it is being reported that Manchester United are keen on making two more ‘major’ signings after they get a deal to sign Jadon Sancho over the line. The 21-year-old winger underwent a medical last week and only small details remain before official confirmation comes from the club.
And according to AS, via Sport Witness, a transfer for Raphael Varane is ‘almost done’ and will be closed at approximately €55m, with a transfer reportedly now only a ‘matter of hours’
Furthermore, the Spanish publication claims that Varane’s representatives signaled that a new deal was not off the table up until just a few days ago.
Optimism of a deal being concluded shortly is shared between English and Spanish media and should an agreement be reached, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be desperate to have his new shiny toy ready for their Premier League curtain-raiser on August 14.
