There could be an opportunity to sign Atletico Madrid midfield Saul this summer, according to reports.
The Spain international has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent years and it sounds like he may have a lesser role in Diego Simeone’s side in 2021.
Spanish publication AS claim Atletico need to sell Saul to help fund transfers for some of their summer targets, with both United and rivals Liverpool closely linked with the midfielder.
The Scousers lost Georgino Wijnaldum on a Bosman move to Paris Saint-Germain already this summer, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Jurgen Klopp enter the race for Saul if Liverpool have the funds available to do a deal.
Meanwhile, at United, if we sign a top defender like Raphael Varane with Jadon Sancho, I think the club will need to sell players before adding a central midfielder to the squad – and one may be needed if we are to push for the title next season.
Contrary to these reports, CaughtOffside understands that Saul is most likely to join Barcelona this summer.
