Despite not returning from holiday until late next week, Raphael Varane’s future is dominating headlines as we approach the final week of July. The defender has just one year remaining on his deal at Real Madrid and has thus far not shown any signs of committing to a long-term deal.
Subsequently, interest from Manchester United has been widely covered by media and according to new reports from Spain, a deal to bring Varane to Old Trafford is now imminent.
That’s according to El Transistor, who claim that Varane making the switch from Madrid to Manchester is now ‘imminent’. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to land his priority target in defence, with a €50m deal set to be closed in the next few days.
Varane is a longstanding target for the club, having initially been close to joining as an 18-year-old in 2011. Instead, the former Lens defender opted for a move to Real Madrid.
Earlier this week, it was reported that Varane’s preference was to return from his holiday straight into training at Manchester United, rather than begin pre-season preparations with Real Madrid.
