In a new questions and answer session through Manchester United’s official channels, Mason Greenwood has revealed that he would ask Wayne Rooney for tips if he could choose any former United player.
United’s 19-year-old prodigy is the club’s highest-scoring teenager in the Premier League, having surpassed Wayne Rooney in the rankings last season. In addition to breaking Marcus Rashford’s record in the Premier League era, Greenwood also became one of the youngest players in the club’s history to reach 100 appearances.
“I’d probably go to with is Wayne Rooney. He’s done it all and is the leading scorer,” Greenwood told ManUtd.com. “I’d probably just ask him, like not how he played because you can watch how he played, but any tips on how you can get in between defenders and how you can anticipate the game a bit more.
“Obviously, he scored hundreds and hundreds of goals for United. That would be the little question I would ask him.”
Greenwood did not have the pleasure of lining up alongside Manchester United’s best goalscorer but will come face-to-face with him on Sunday when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side play their first pre-season game.
The encounter at Pride Park is the first of five pre-season fixtures planned this summer before the Premier League curtain-raiser against Leeds on August 14. Greenwood, who was forced to withdraw from England’s Euro 2020 squad, is expected to be fit after full involvement in training since early July.
