Roberto Carlos declares his admiration for Luke Shaw

Deserved praise from Roberto Carlos.

The way in which Luke Shaw has transformed as a player has been amazing to watch. There will be people who don’t pay as much attention as Manchester United fans, catching on because he’s playing for England at the Euros (and probably still thinking he was the player he was 2-3 years ago), now beginning to realise what a cracking left-back he is for a 25-year-old.

His form at the Euros is what we’ve seen for the past 18-months, and we’ve had it all with Shaw. From the early days of promise, a nasty leg break that could have ended his career, a worrying lack of support from one particular manager, and now this. Masterclass after masterclass.

Comparisons have been made to Brazil legend Roberto Carlos, with a number of members from the England squad referring to him as ‘Shawberto Carlos’ this summer.

Press Association spoke with Carlos about Shaw, who said: “You can see he’s very motivated, his performance against Ukraine was very good. He’s been improving each game. I think he’s got everything to get to the top. He’s the left-back for England – that in itself says a lot.”
