‘Holds a special place in my heart’ – Tom Heaton reacts to Manchester United return

Tom Heaton is back at Manchester United on a two-year contract and the deal has thrown David de Gea and Dean Henderson’s future in doubt. I mean, how can Ole Gunnar Solskjaer be expected to start another full season with those two expecting a starting role in the team? It’s unsustainable.

Heaton will be better back-up than Lee Grant and Sergio Romero will be playing his football elsewhere next season. The Times claim the former Aston Villa shot stopper has immediately set his sights on becoming the number one goalkeeper at the club.

Talk about being optimistic for a 35-years-old keeper and it’s good that he arrives at least wanting to provide some competition.

Anyhow, there is no denying that Heaton is delighted to be back where his career started.

He took to Twitter after rejoining the club to write: “Having spent so many years at @ManUtd, it holds a special place in my heart. There aren’t many greater feelings than playing in a packed out Old Trafford. It feels great to have the opportunity to do that again.

“Thanks for the warm welcome, let the hard work begin.”

Welcome back to the club, Tom!
