Real Madrid admit contract defeat with Varane and tell defender he can speak to Man United

Real Madrid has reportedly given up in their pursuit to see French defender Raphael Varane commit his long-term future to the club. The 2018 World Cup winner, who is out of contract next summer, is understood to have reiterated his desire to leave the Santiago Bernabeu.

That’s according to a recent report from Spanish outlet AS, who claims Varane is adamant he does not want to be a Real Madrid player next season.

United have been strongly linked with making a summer move for the 28-year-old defender and after reaching an agreement with Borussia Dortmund for Jadon Sancho, it is being reported that the Red Devils will now pursue Varane’s signature.

AS now claim that following Varane’s unwavering desire to move on, Real Madrid has given the defender the green light to negotiate a move with United.

The outlet also suggests that a potential move could be agreed upon if the Red Devils are able to stump up a fee within the region of £43m (€50m).
