“No surprise” – Roy Keane agrees with Portugal’s Bruno Fernandes snub

Bruno Fernandes enjoyed a stellar campaign for Manchester United but struggled in Portugal’s first two games in this summer’s European Championships, which led to being dropped by manager Fernando Santos.

The midfielder was visibly tired in Manchester United’s final few games of the season but despite a busy schedule, the 26-year-old dismissed any suggestions of fatigue. Instead, Fernandes substitute appearance against France earlier this week was his 84th game in just over a year

Nevertheless, Fernandes was dropped again by Fernando Santo in their round-of-16 clash against Belgium, sparking discussions among pundits and experts.

“He’s not really been on top form in the tournament. His body language? Not great. He’s not performed… no surprise with the changes the manager has made,” Roy Keane told the ITV panel in agreement.

Diogo Dalot, who made his senior debut for Portugal against France, started for the first time in a memorable moment. The young right-back was a late inclusion in the squad after Joao Cancelo pulled out due to a positive COVID-19 test.
