Manchester United have stepped off the gas on their pursuit of Atletico Madrid star Kieran Trippier, according to reports. The club has been pursuing a deal for the right-back this summer but are now ‘cooling’ their interest.
That’s according to The Athletic, who claim that the Old Trafford hierarchy are taking a step back due to Atletico Madrid’s high asking price, believed to be £28m.
Manchester United, who have been looking to add competition at right-back, were reportedly willing to offer £10m for the 30-year-old, which fell way short of the Madrid club’s valuation.
Instead, Diogo Dalot, who is set to return from a season-long loan at AC Milan, is reportedly being touted to be Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s back-up next season.
Dalot enjoyed a solid first season in Serie A and with two years remaining on his contract, it seems unlikely that he will be let go this summer.
