Paul Pogba produced another eye-catching performance at Euro 2020 last night against Portugal, on a night France topped Group F to reach the last-16.
The French had already booked their place in the knockout stages but a 2-2 draw on Wednesday night was enough to see them finish the group in first place.
Although Karim Benzema was credited with the two important goals on the night, Pogba is one the player taking the headlines after running the midfield against Portugal and providing an assist.
He sat deep and dictated play, so it wasn’t Pogba played in a free roam role placed predominantly in the final third. This was a matured performance and something we want to see more often in a United shirt.
Speaking about his impression of Pogba’s performances for France at the Euros, Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend told ITV as quoted by the Daily Mail: “For me, having watched the group stages, he’s the player of the tournament.
“Some of his passes and touches… his pass to Mbappe was one of the best I’ve ever seen. The back-four is compact but somehow he squeezes the ball around to Mbappe.
“When he plays for United he’s not far behind that but in England we don’t appreciate Pogba. We appreciate those that kick hard and run for 90 minutes and that’s not Pogba. We don’t respect him enough in this country.”
Do you agree with Townsend that Pogba is under-appreciated in England?
