Sergio Ramos is set to leave Real Madrid after 16 years at the club and the shock announcement has sparked links to most big European clubs. The 35-year-old is out of contract at the Santiago Bernabeu and is reportedly now considering his options.
Despite reports that Manchester United were not going to pursue a deal for Ramos, former player, and fan-favourite Louis Saha has claimed that it could ‘galvanise’ any club, highlighting the impact Thiago Silva had at Chelsea.
“If you see the impact of Thiago Silva at Chelsea, the impact of Sergio Ramos would be the same, or maybe even bigger,” Saha told gamblingdeals.com.
“The guy is known for that type of leadership, has the ability to step up and score a lot of goals, he’s one of the best ever goalscoring defenders.
“He’s a big player on the big stage. If you want to win trophies, he’s as strong a signing as Thiago Silva, and there are few players who can galvanise a club like this.”
Despite his age and injury concerns, Saha has backed the former Sevilla defender to replicate Thiago Silva’s impact at Chelsea. Raphael Varane has repeatedly been linked with a move to Manchester United but the club has been dealt a blow in their pursuit after Real Madrid opened contract talks with the France international.
