Former Man Utd star wants Scott McTominay over Declan Rice

Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for West Ham midfielder Declan Rice but with the London club reportedly demanding a nine-figure sum, a transfer this summer is unlikely.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s midfield is a cause for concern going into next season but former Manchester United star Mickey Thomas has poured ice on their pursuit of Rice, insisting that he prefers McTominay.

Thomas, who represented the club from 1978 to 1981, voiced his opinion on Twitter during Friday evening’s 0-0 draw between England and Scotland.

McTominay, who is often deployed as a defender for his national side, put in an exemplary performance as Scotland limited England to just one shot on goal.

Declan Rice failed to impress in the drab affair at Wembley but is reportedly of interest to Manchester United. Rice has three years remaining on his current deal at West Ham and is likely to stay with David Moyes’ side to at least one more campaign.
