Manchester United have reportedly made a second bid to sign Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid.
Last season we saw Luke Shaw kick on to become the Premier League’s best left-back following the arrival of Alex Telles from FC Porto.
And it sounds like manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to repeat the trick at right-back, too.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka is the mainstay at right-back at the moment, with Diogo Dalot’s future up in the air after a decent season-long loan spell at AC Milan. The Portuguese starlet doesn’t quite cut the mustard and I suspect Solskjaer wants Trippier as an attack-minded option at right-back.
If United want to challenge for Premier League titles they will need a better squad. It’s no wonder Solskjaer wants intense competition for places as it’s the only way we are going to be able to compete with the likes of Man City.
La Gazzetta dello Sport in Italy claim (H/t The Express) that United have now made a second bid for Trippier, with their first offer worth £10m rejected by Atletico Madrid (via Daily Mail). United have reportedly upped the sum to £21.5m.
Moreover, the report adds that Diego Simeone is close to accepting the second bid, with Atletico looking to make money for a spending spree of their own.
We won’t need to worry about Premier League experience with Trippier – since he played top flight football for Burnley and Tottenham Hotspur previously.
The Manchester Evening News claims Trippier is preparing for life at Old Trafford next season.
The report mentions that the England international has switched back to a UK mobile phone number after two years in Spain, while his wife is also getting close to the partners of United duo Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw.
