West Ham fans will hope to see David Moyes strengthen his squad this summer, with European football secured for next season.
They were promised back in 2016 that European football was on the horizon along with the London Stadium – a fresh start after leaving Upton Park, which I am sure still irks certain supporters.
The Hammers had a few Europa League qualifiers but that’s about it. They never looked like seriously qualifying for European football league.
But then former Manchester United manager David Moyes returned to West Ham. And it was an unpopular choice at the time, although that didn’t stop him guiding them into the Europa League.
Moyes made a big call taking Jesse Lingard on loan in January and without that addition I seriously doubt their fans would be looking forward to the Europa League next season.
However, it sounds like he won’t have Lingard available to him, with The Sun claiming that the midfielder aims to make a name for himself at United after a chat with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
That is not to suggest Lingard has totally ruled it out – but the report states he would “far prefer to stay in the north west.”
Lingard scored nine goals in 16 games for West Ham and was in contention for England’s EURO2020 squad, only to miss out in the final cut. It is noted in the article that he has told friends “his big hope is to rebuild his United career.”
