Atletico Madrid full-back Kieran Trippier has reportedly told his friends and England team-mates that he expects to move to Manchester United before the transfer window shuts.
The former Tottenham defender has been linked with a switch to Old Trafford, with a return to the Premier League on the cards for the England international, as per Football Insider.
Trippier would be a useful signing for United, with the 30-year-old having won La Liga last season, not to mention a wealth of experience in European competition – reaching the Champions League final in 2019.
He would provide something different to Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the final third because the former Crystal Palace youth graduate is superb defensively but less so going forward. This is why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs a better squad in order to compete for the biggest honours, and many Reds will have questions after losing the Europa League final to Villarreal at the end of the season.
Trippier has an eye for a cross which is always an asset when you’ve got Edinson Cavani lurking around the penalty area.
And it’s really no harm having better competition in the squad.
