West Ham step up Jesse Lingard pursuit after Euro 2020 heartache

With Jesse Lingard unlucky to miss out on a place in England’s squad for Euro 2020, it sounds like West Ham are going to speed up their move to try and sign the Manchester United midfielder on a permanent deal.

David Moyes will be hopeful a deal can be concluded soon – although part of me wishes Lingard had the chance to show his ability on an even bigger stage this summer, at the European Championships.

A West Ham insider told The Sun: “Jesse knows we want him, so hopefully the club will pursue him in the next month or so.”

That would have gave Lingard a chance to flaunt himself in the transfer window. I don’t see a future for him at Old Trafford and at 28 he needs to be playing every week, so it will be interesting to see what offers come his way.

Lingard scored nine goals after joining the Hammers on loan in January. He went on to play a huge role in helping the club to secure European football. However, he did not make a single Premier League appearance for the Red Devils in the first half of the season.

The United academy graduate missed out on the final 26-man squad selected by Gareth Southgate, but is technically still on standby until Saturday…
