Manchester United are poised to learn their opening day fate next week as the Premier League gets ready to announce next seasons fixtures. The 2021/22 domestic season will begin on August 14, as football’s schedule returns to normality.
Solskjær’s side were due to start last season away from home against Burnley, but their late involvement in the postponed Europa League meant their campaign curtain raiser was at Old Trafford for the fourth consecutive year.
The Norwegian manager will be hoping for similar luck this year, as he will want to start the season on a strong note after failing to do so in his first two seasons in charge.
Manchester United will benefit from a first pre-season since 2019 but preparations will be disrupted by summer tournaments. The club have as many as 13 first-team players featuring in the Euro’s, with nearly a handful ready to take part in South America’s equivalent.
With cup finals not set to be played until the middle of July, the customary three-week break could mean that some players do not return until just before United player their first game of the season.
The Premier League are set to announce the fixtures for next season on Wednesday, June 16 at 9am.
