Ever since Cristiano Ronaldo left Manchester United for Real Madrid back in 2009 rumours have never gone away linking the Portuguese with a return back to Old Trafford.
For years now the reds faithful have been used to hearing speculation linking United with a move for Ronaldo and truth be told its always been taken with a pinch of salt but with rumours once again emerging this week linking United with a move for Ronaldo we take a look at whether Ronaldo coming back to Manchester United this summer is a genuine possibility.
According to reports from Italy Ronaldo is said to have grown frustrated at Juventus following their exit from the European Cup and disappointing Serie A campaign and is open for a move away from the club and whilst at first glance, you would think this transfer story is a non-starter but the more you look at it the more you feel that a deal could genuinely take place this summer.
Ronaldo still arguably has one last big move to make in his football career and even now at 36 years of age can still deliver 30 plus goals a season. The Portuguese have shown no signs of slowing down and few if any would back against Ronaldo delivering the goods once again at Old Trafford next season.
Of course, we have been here before most notably back in 2013 where United was heavily linked with a move for Ronaldo only for it to fail to materialize but this time around it has a different feeling to it and I do think there is a genuine chance that Ronaldo could return back to United this summer should the reds do indeed make a move.
It would be a transfer that would stun the football world but a move that I feel is not only doable but one that would actually make sense for United. To get arguably the best player in the world for a likely cut-price fee and a player who would undoubtedly strengthen the reds attack would be a deal worth doing.
Ronaldo still has a few more seasons at the highest levels left in him and if United can pull off this deal it would not only bolster Solskjaer’s attacking options but would also give the club an enormous lift going into the new season.
The reds squad isn’t a million miles away from winning the Premier League Title and with Ronaldo on board, it would undoubtedly boost United’s title hopes and go a long way to making that dream of winning a 21st league title next season reality.
