Manchester United are in advanced talks with Atalanta to sign highly-rated defender Cristian Romero on a permanent transfer, according to reports. Speculation surrounding the Argentinian is mounting after it was reported last week that the club had made an offer to the Bergamo club.
Romero, who is currently on loan at Atalanta from Juventus, is expected to make his stay permanent imminently. Atalanta have a buy-out clause in their agreement with Juventus but could lose their star man shortly after.
According to journalist Nicolo Schira, Manchester United are in advanced talks with Atalanta for the transfer of Romero and have reportedly offered €45 million to sign him. Romero made his senior debut for Argentina earlier, scoring just three minutes into his maiden appearance.
Ole Gunnar Solskjær is said to be keen on strengthening his backline, with links to Raphael Varane, Pau Torres and Jules Koundé also prominent.
There are doubts over Victor Lindelöf going into next season and the club are reportedly on the hunt for a long-term partner to captain Harry Maguire, who is seen as the team’s pillar.
