Manchester United outcast Andreas Pereira has confirmed his desire to leave the club this summer after a loan spell at Lazio. The midfielder has endured a tough season with the Italian side but has remained upbeat, despite his future hanging in the balance.
Pereira made 26 league appearances under Simone Inzaghi last season, but started just three of them. He scored one goal and assisted a further four. The 25-year-old will return to Manchester United ahead of pre-season but will hold talks with Ole Gunnar Solskjær over his future.
“Premier League, Serie A, and La Liga? They are super leagues,” Pereira is quoted as saying by TuttoMercatoWeb. “The English one is very physical, and as you can see, I don’t have the ideal physique! Joking aside, I loved playing in England; Spanish football is more my style of play.
“Future? I would like to stay and play for Lazio again, but this depends on the discussion with United and what they will want to do with me.”
Ole Gunnar Solskjær used Pereira frequently in the 2019/20 season but Bruno Fernandes’ arrival complicated matters. The Norwegian manager is spoilt for options in that position, with Donny van de Beek hardly breaking a sweat last season. Jesse Lingard will also be hoping to challenge if he decides to remain at Old Trafford.
Pereira has two years remaining on his current contract at United, which puts the club in a strong position should they want to sell. Manchester United could seek to send Pereira on yet another loan move – it would be the fourth temporary exit since he joined.
