Roma manager José Mourinho eyes reunion with Manchester United outcast

José Mourinho was short on friends when his disastrous reign at Manchester United came to an end but the Portuguese did maintain healthy relationships with some players and of them is believed to be Sergio Romero.

Mourinho is set to take over at AS Roma on July 1 after agreeing terms with the Italian club and is reportedly seeking a reunion with his former number two. David de Gea has also been linked with a move to Roma but is unlikely to go.

According an exclusive in The Mirror, José Mourinho will make an attempt to sign the Argentina shot-stopper in his new job as he starts another rebuilding job. Romero is free to leave United this summer upon the expiry of his contract on June 30.

Mourinho rarely used Romero in the league but was his trusted deputy in cup games and even gave him the nod over De Gea in the Europa League final in 2017.

United will be relieved that Romero is off the wage bill, having spent the last 18 months earning £70,000 per week without doing anything.
