Manchester United have been alerted as Barcelona wonderkid Ilaix Moriba could leave the club this summer amid their financial troubles. Moriba, who is a La Masia youth graduate, has made a breakthrough season under Ronald Koeman this term and has sparked interest from Europe’s elite clubs.
Ilaix Moriba is highly rated by Barcelona but not the traditional La Masia product we’ve grown accustomed to. The 18-year-old is a box-to-box midfielder and has been compared to Yaya Toure by some inside the Catalonian club.
Moriba, who has just one year remaining on his current contract, could be sacrificed to secure funds this summer. He has a £86 million release clause but any deal would be expected to fall well short of that number.
Mundo Deportivo now report that Manchester United are interested in the midfielder, having already made an offer three months ago.
But the interest is set to be challenged by Premier League rivals Manchester City and Chelsea if Barcelona can not tie him down to a long-term deal.
Moriba and his club are said to be locked in negotiations for a new contract but the player will have to drastically lower his demands if any agreement is to be reached.
