Man City are a bigger club than United, says Trevor Sinclair

Man City fell short trying to win the Champions League for the first time on Saturday evening.

Thankfully it wasn’t to be, and we’ve spent the week laughing at Patrice Evra trolling City and Oasis figures Liam and Noel Gallagher.

Pep Guardiola’s side were the favourites to beat Chelsea, but they lost 1-0, with Kai Havertz scoring the game’s only goal.

However, in terms of winning the Premier League and League Cup, it has still been a successful season for Guardiola’s side.

Trevor Sinclair, who played for City from 2003-2007, made a bizarre claim on talkSPORT in a plea for attention – following the 2020/21 Champions League final.

The 48-year-old said that City are now a bigger club than fierce rivals United.

“I think Manchester United are leading the way,” said Sinclair, as per talkSPORT.

“They’re catching up financially each year, the blueprint of the football club, the investment in the team, the playing staff, what they’re winning year-in, year-out.”

Former Premier League midfielder Jamie O’Hara doesn’t agree.

“Oh come on, Trev,” said O’Hara. “You were playing Gillingham and Tranmere 20 years ago! Come on! Let’s be realistic!

“Manchester United are the biggest club in the world, them and Real Madrid.

“Manchester City are nowhere near that yet. They are successful, a very successful club, but they haven’t won a European title, so you can’t put them anywhere near Manchester United.

“Sorry, you just can’t!”

Sinclair asked: “For me, say I was asked to go to a football club, forget about my loyalties, what club are you going to go?”

O’Hara issued a brilliant response to settle the debate, saying: “Manchester United!”

But that didn’t stop Sinclair, who felt he needed to get the last word in.

“Ah, well I disagree with that,” added Sinclair. “I think you’d go to Manchester City straight away.

“When you look at the fundamentals and the foundations of the football club, the recruitment, the players, the stadium, the training ground. Winning trophies year-in, year-out – Manchester United do not do that at this present time.

“So, for me, Manchester City are the bigger club.”
