Brazil to host Copa America as COVID-19 causes havoc in South America

Argentina and Colombia were both originally set to host the Copa America, however, with two countries in no position to stage the competition, CONMEBOL has announced that Brazil will take the honour – in 13 days’ time.

The coronavirus pandemic continues to cause havoc in South America and there had been fears that this year’s Copa America would have to be postponed, but thankfully they have come to a conclusion and it will go ahead.

An official statement reads: “The CONMEBOL Copa America 2021 will be played in Brazil!

“Tournament start and end dates are confirmed.

“The venues and the fixture list will be informed by CONMEBOL in the next few hours.

“The oldest national team tournament in the world will thrill the entire continent!”

Manchester United have a number of players involved this summer, including Edinson Cavani, who will be hoping to deliver the trophy for Uruguay. The striker will be disappointed with how his season ended at United and before returning to set the record straight, we’d like to see him have a successful summer without playing too much football.

Ultimately, I want Cavani fit and firing at the beginning of next season.
