Bastian Schweinsteiger sends Manchester United a message ahead of Europa League final

Former Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has sent his best wishes to the team ahead of tonight’s Europa League final against Villarreal in Gdansk.

Schweinsteiger had left the club before United’s last and only Europa League triumph — and he was lucky enough to experience Champions League football during his short stint at the club, also winning the FA Cup in 2016.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get the player we thought we were getting from Bayern Munich. Schweinsteiger’s best years were beyond him and I know many Reds who felt 2008-2010 would’ve been a better time for him to move to Old Trafford.

The legendary German midfielder wrote on Twitter: “Dear @ManUtd and fans, today is a good day to win the @EuropaLeague again. I’ll keep my fingers crossed and wish you all the best! Basti”

I’m sure Schweinsteiger will be watching the midfield closely, and we still don’t know what type of system the manager is going to opt for ahead of kick off.

SN’s predicted XI shows a line-up without Fred in the middle. It’s not something the manager does in big games, but we should be looking to hit Villarreal quickly before any nerves kick in.

A nice message from Basti all the same. Hopefully we see a big performance from Paul Pogba tonight.
