Reports in the UK claim Manchester United will bid £40m for Raphael Varane after Stretty News confirmed this week that Matt Judge held talks with the Real Madrid centre-back’s agent.

However, Spanish outlet AS now say Real Madrid will insist on a transfer fee of €70m (£60m) for the French defender and will reject any offers below that valuation. A lot more than what United were thinking about offering, as per The Mirror.

In fairness, AS may have an average track record with these stories, but they’ve pulled his valuation from Transfermarkt.

That sounds like a strong stance from Real – one you would expect considering Varane is one of the best defenders in the world, with plenty of years left in him at the very top.

Reports in Spain suggest Madrid are more relaxed about the situation than English newspapers would like you to believe. In fact, it’s said Los Blancos intend to pin Varane to a new deal and won’t let him leave for free next summer.

The situation will change if the player decides to leave because that will see Madrid forced to listen to offers.

Varane is exactly what we need at the back!
