Euro dream over for former Manchester United star Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Former Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is out of the European Championships.

Usually that means Sweden – but not this time, with the striker suffering an injury in AC Milan’s 3-0 win against Juventus last week. We’ll see get to see Victor Lindelof take part in the tournament this summer.

The Sweden national team manager has confirmed that the 39-year-old informed him that he’d be unavailable for this summer’s tournament (via ESPN), which he came out of retirement to play in.

A statement read: “Today, Zlatan has informed Janne Andersson that his injury will stop him from participating in the European Championships this summer.

“Get well Zlatan, we hope to see you on the football field again soon!”

Milan have two games left this season and they will be without Ibrahimovic. They are not yet guaranteed a place in next season’s Champions League, but they are very close. I would imagine that manager Stefano Pioli would prefer to have his main man up front for their remaining fixtures.

His focus now needs to be on stabilising his knee.

Ibrahimovic turns 40 in October but recently signed a one-year extension at Milan.
