Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reflected on tonight’s 4-2 defeat to Liverpool and on a more positive note is looking forward to Old Trafford hosting fans next week.

The Manchester United manager accepted during his post-match that Liverpool deserved to win the match tonight. The scoreline is deflating but after 4 games in 8 games I wasn’t expecting much tonight.

He didn’t feel the team built on its momentum after the first 20 minutes, which saw them dominate phases of play but sadly nowhere near enough to go on and win the game.

Solskjaer felt the side missed Harry Maguire tonight. That, really, is no surprise consider he’s our skipper and Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly have very rarely formed a formidable partnership at the back.

Solskjaer’s post-match interview courtesy of Sky Sports:

Ultimately, United didn’t go for it and let Liverpool off the hook. You can’t say they were hard to play against because we never really got going. The players didn’t have a lot of preparation having played 4 games in 8 days but they need to come through this and get ready for the Europa League final against Villarreal.

On top of that, Liverpool are fighting for Champions League football, which is something we’ve already secured. It’s just disappointing that they still couldn’t edge Liverpool for the sake of bragging rights.

Our priorities are clearly set on winning the Europa League, but I can’t imagine preparing for a final in a better way than beating the Scousers beforehand.

Fans will be back at Old Trafford next Tuesday night — something we can’t wait to witness.

May is an important month for Manchester United. You just hope it ends better than it started.
