Manchester United players are buzzing for the Europa League final in Gdansk after progressing through against Roma.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will travel to Poland to play Villarreal on May 26, after the La Liga side knocked out Arsenal at the semi-final stage to prevent all-English European finals.
United were defeated 3-2 by Roma in the Stadio Olimpico but the 6-2 first-leg thrashing at Old Trafford meant they eased through by an aggregate scoreline of 8-5.
Edinson Cavani scored both United goals in the Italian capital but the Reds had David de Gea to thank for a string of outstanding saves after the defence hit the self-destruct button after the pause.
Solskjaer has failed in four previous semi-finals as manager but his players are now thrilled to have the chance to pick up their first silverware under the Norwegian’s tutelage.
Eric Bailly admitted he was frustrated by the defeat on the night but is looking forward to the final at the end of the month.
Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford posted a throwback of United’s last Europa League triumph in Stockholm in 2017.
Mason Greenwood reached a landmark 100 appearances for the Reds and posted a graphic shared by the club post-match.
