Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Manchester United have to find the right man to replace Ed Woodward, even if it means overlooking former team-mate Edwin van der Sar.
Woodward announced he will be leaving his role in 2021 earlier this week, in the wake of the European Super League collapsing.
He has been executive vice-chairman at United since 2012 and has always been an unpopular figure among fans due to his close working relationship with the Glazer family dating back to the 2005 takeover of the club.
Van der Sar has been touted as a potential candidate to replace Woodward, however, Solskjaer believes United must ensure they appoint the right man rather than taking the sentimental approach.
That said, Van der Sar is doing a great job at Ajax – and I think most fans would prefer to see him appointed over Richard Arnold?
“It’s important we employ the right man – we can’t employ on sentiment but to have Man Utd’s best interests at heart – that’s one of the criteria of course,” Solskjaer said (via MEN), as he completely ignored the fact United didn’t appoint the right man when Woodward was given a job.
It really shouldn’t be difficult to replace him.
“But I’m not the one who writes the job description so – of course my job now is to take care of results but whoever [comes in] I’m hopeful I can have a good working relationship with and I can provide results.”
