Report: Manchester United watching another Leicester City defender

Manchester United have been linked with a range of centre-backs ahead of the upcoming transfer widow.

Fans are calling on the club sign a top class centre-back, but you’d ought to be naïve to think Ole Gunnar Solskjaer doesn’t know that too. The Norwegian has bought well and should be trusted to find an adequate partner for Harry Maguire in the heart of United’s defence.

According to Foot Mercato, United are looking at another player at Leicester to sort out their defence, in the name of Wesley Fonana, who joined the Foxes in October.

The 20-year-old has been a mainstay in Brendan Rodgers’ defence, playing 29 games across all competitions as they sit third in the Premier League. On top of that, Leicester have an FA Cup semi-final against Southampton tomorrow at Wembley.

Having spent £80m to bring Maguire in from Leicester in 2019, I can’t imagine John Murtough or Ed Woodward looking forward to calling up Leicester about another player, knowing how they operate at the negotiation table.

You just know they’d require a hefty fee for Fofana when they only recently signed him for £36.5m from St Etienne, on a five-year contract, as per The Guardian.

Maybe we should just approaching whoever is scouting these players for Leicester – rather than throwing money away down the line. Whoever it is has done a remarkable job at the King Power Stadium.

Fofona has done brilliantly in the Premier League this season, but United are bound to go for a cheaper alternative when I can’t see Leicester allowing him leave for under £60m. The future is Axel Tuanzebe is another grey spot.
