David Moyes gives Lingard injury update after West Ham lose v Newcastle

West Ham’s top-four hopes took a hit on Saturday after as they suffered a surprise 3-2 defeat against Newcastle United with Manchester United loanee Jesse Lingard also forced off the pitch with injury.

The Hammers were reduced to 10 men after Craig Dawson got sent off for two first-half bookings – and they trailed by two goals after an own goal from Issa Diop and Joelinton getting on the scoresheet.

David Moyes’ side refused to give up and came back thanks to a header from Diop and a spot-kick from Lingard, with the United academy graduate scoring his 9th Premier League goal of the season – he best tally yet for a season.

“I think it was just cramp, I don’t think it was anything serious,” said Moyes, as per The Metro.

Lingard’s injury doesn’t sound serious and West Ham fans can expect to see him fit for their next match against Chelsea next Saturday.

It looked like it would be another good result for the Hammers until Arsenal loanee Joe Willock bagged a late winner for the Magpies. While West Ham remain fourth, Liverpool play next on Monday night against Leeds, whereas Chelsea are occupied with the FA Cup this weekend.

Liverpool will rise above West Ham if they beat Leeds, but that won’t be easy. Jurgen Klopp’s side are out of the Champions League and only have top four to play for, so they’re out of the picture as far as United are concerned.
