Jude Bellingham opens up on reasoning behind Man Utd snub following BVB transfer

Jude Bellingham has insisted that Borussia Dortmund were the only club that he was thinking of moving to ahead of his switch from Birmingham City.

There was a lot of speculation surrounding Bellingham’s long-term future ahead of last summer’s transfer window. We had stories hit the press about Sir Alex Ferguson showing up at Carrington to show Bellingham and his family around, but sadly it wasn’t enough to convince the young talented midfielder.

In the end, it was Dortmund who managed to secure Bellingham’s signature with the Bundesliga side paying a fee that could rise up to £30 million for him. After watching him closely this season there’s a clear argument that it was money well spent by the Bundesliga outfit.

Speaking to FourFourTwo, Bellingham said that he always planning to choose Dortmund despite attempts from United to sign him. This comes with the player’s belief that the German side offers a clear pathway for players of his age to come into the side and thrive, so long as they do the work on the training ground.

“United have a fantastic squad, but I was so focused and so happy with the interest from Dortmund that this became my first choice,” Bellingham said. “It was never a case of this club over this club. For me, it was always Borussia Dortmund, and that’s it.

“The only thing I was bothered about while making my decision was playing football, and this was the best place to do that.

“It’s as clear as day that if you come here and do the right things, you’re going to get your opportunity.”

I actually think Bellingham made the right decision – considering he’s made 22 Bundesliga appearances as well as eight in the Champions League.

The English talent has time on his side and is destined for a big move at some point in the future.
