According to reports, Villarreal’s highly-rated centre-back Pau Torres is open to the prospect of joining Manchester United.
It’s probably one of football’s worst kept secrets that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is on the lookout for a new defender, ideally a left-footed one.
It is widely accepted that a new defender is a top priority for the Red Devils, with the coaching team looking to cement down a long-term partner for captain Harry Maguire.
According to a recent report from MEN, one of the club’s defensive targets is Villarreal’s Torres.
Torres, 24, has enjoyed a huge rise in European football in recent seasons.
After featuring in 75 matches, in all competitions, for Villarreal’s senior first-team, Torres is widely regarded as one of Spain’s most reliable centre-backs.
Although the 24-year-old defender signed a new deal, which is believed to contain a £51m (€60m) release clause, just two years ago, United are rumoured to still be in the hunt for his signature.
MEN claims that despite the player’s deal not expiring until 2024, Torres would welcome a move to England’s top-flight.
It has been reported that as well as United, rivals Manchester City are also monitoring the Spanish defender.
