Denis Law is a fan of Luke Shaw who has made the left-back role his own this season amid competition from new arrival Alex Telles.

Hopefully something clicks and on the right side and we see Aaron Wan-Bissaka develop into an even better full-back, like Shaw has done in recent months, and that could tempt Ole Gunnar Solskjaer into the transfer to increase competition for places.

The way in which Shaw has altered his approach and improved following Telles’ arrival has seen him become a standout performer for United. It has become clear that players are looking for Shaw on the pitch now, even in the final third, and we’ve seen the benefits with him justifiably seen as the best left-back in England.

Shaw is likely make England’s squad for the European Championships, which a year ago would have been considered nothing more than a wild prediction.

Irwin knows a thing or two about playing at left-back. We’ve not seen many better players take up the role for the club, and the only one who comes close is Patrice Evra, so this is real praise from a legend.

“Luke’s been brilliant this year, he really has,” Irwin told the club, as revealed in a recent Twitter post from @ManUtd. “He’s in a rich vein of form and he’s our standout performer at the moment.”

There will be an argument put forward for Shaw to win United’s player of the season when it all comes to a close. I’ve no doubt in my mind about that.
