West Ham defender Aaron Cresswell has labelled Luke Shaw as arguably the Premier League’s best left-back this season.

Manchester United face David Moyes’ West Ham side in the Premier League this evening (7:15pm) and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Reds can return to second in the league with victory.

Shaw is likely to return after being rested in the 1-1 Europa League draw against AC Milan in midweek and will lineup against fellow English left-back Cresswell.

The 25-year-old has been enjoying his best period of form since joining United seven years ago and opposite number Cresswell remembers how impressive he was at the start of his career.

“When he first burst on to the scene at Southampton, I remember thinking: ‘This kid’s going to be world class’,” he told the Mirror.

“He had everything at 17, 18 – the size, the power, pace and ability with the ball.

“Then he had a bad injury and he had a tough time under Jose Mourinho at Manchester United, but this year you could arguably say he’s been the best left-back in the Premier League.”

Shaw has not made an England appearance since 2018 but there will surely be little doubt over his selection in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the European Championships, presuming he can stay fit.

England’s squad for three World Cup qualifiers at the end of this month will be named on March 18, and Shaw will be hoping to stake a claim if given the chance in fixtures against San Marino, Albania and Poland.
