Former AC Milan goalkeeper Marco Amelia believes the Rossoneri are the favourites in their round of 16 Europa League tie against Manchester United.
The two European giants were drawn against each other on Friday and the first leg takes place on 11 March at Old Trafford.
Milan have lost three of their last five in Serie A and will need to turn things around quickly if they want to stay in the title race this season. Inter Milan beat them last week to move four points clear at the top of the table.
However, Amelia believes his former side will reach the quarter-finals of the Europa League.
“They will go to face United in the best way possible,” Amelia told Sky Sport Italia, as cited by Milan News and SempreMilan. “In flashes, I believe that Milan have played well even in this recent spell.
“The Manchester United manager has lots of options, they have a good mix of young and experienced players. I believe that on a level playing field though, I have lots of confidence in Milan despite their current form.
“The Rossoneri also have a good mix of youngsters and veterans in the squad. Despite the strength of Manchester United, I see Milan as the favourites.”
It will be a brilliant tie. The Europa League is Europe’s second rate competition but this is a classic tie for the competition to host.
I wouldn’t be too worried about AC Milan but Zlatan Ibrahimovic is bound to be a constant threat. Our defence will need to be at their best for those two fixtures (home/away).
