Solskjaer gives positive injury update on three key Man Utd absentees ahead of Chelsea fixture

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hopeful that Scott McTominay, Edinson Cavani and Donny van de Beek will be available against Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday after missing the Europa League draw against Real Sociedad.

United eased to the Europa League round-of-16 in a dull 0-0 draw that ultimately became a procession.

Solskjaer’s side dismantled La Real in the first-leg in Turin and the United boss afforded peripheral players game time on a far from memorable evening at Old Trafford.

But the evening will be remembered by two young Reds, with Amad coming on for his first home minutes and 17-year-old Shola Shoretire becoming the youngest United player in Europe since Norman Whiteside.

United finished the game relatively unscathed but Daniel James was forced off with injury and has become a doubt for the crucial Chelsea fixture.

Solskjaer provided an update on James and four other key members of his squad in his post-match interview.

“(Dan James) We will have to check on him tonight and Scott, Donny, Edinson we hope they can be available for the weekend. Paul still out for a few weeks,” he told BT Sport, as quoted by the MEN’s Rich Fay.

The return of three first-team players will provide a boost for Solskjaer and United will be close to full strength for their trip to Stamford Bridge, barring the absent Paul Pogba.

Edinson Cavani and Scott McTominay have each missed the last three games through knocks and could both return to the starting lineup if fully fit, and Van de Beek could be utilised from the bench.
